I remember Eliot finding a publicity photo of Maggie Boyle in my room and asking me if it was a picture of my girlfriend. (He hadn't yet met his future stepmother.) Maggie was looking pretty sultry - but only in a folk-singer sort of way – so I took it as a compliment.

I remember belonging to various video clubs near home or work and scouring the shelves for a video we hadn't seen - and that we all wanted to see.

I remember – a couple of months ago - my mum telling me that she had been approached by a woman of shall we say Eastern-European appearance who asked her if she could change a £20 note. This was in Tesco’s car park. There was a fair amount of urgency and flustering but my mum could and, being a kind soul, did. When she tried to use the note it turned out to be a forgery.

I remember – and this was about a week later – my dad was waiting for my mum in the charity shop where she volunteers. He had £75 or so in his back pocket that he had just withdrawn from the bank along the road. He was waiting by the till while she was helping a couple of girls of shall we say Eastern-European appearance one of who was looking at some clothes. They went off without buying anything, but when they had gone my dad discovered that he no longer had £75 or so in his back pocket.

I remember Graham Morgan. I’m sure that was his name. Cornet player. He wore glasses and had a terrific embouchure – and thus a beautiful tone.
